Altitude, water, and not being That Group on the trail
Denver is already high. The trail is higher. Drink, yield, and skip the summit ego.
People do not always say “I feel weird.” They get quiet, cranky, or dramatic about socks. Treat water and manners as the same lesson: take care of your body, then take care of everyone else on the path.
Altitude, short version
- Sleep low, play a little higher, go home
- Headache + nausea + “I want to lie down” = turn around, no debate
- Sugar helps moods. Water helps brains.
Water math that works
Give everyone a bottle they can empty. When it is empty, you refill it. “Sip every time we stop” beats “remember to hydrate.”
Trail manners in three lines
- Uphill people get the lane
- Voices stay smaller than the creek
- Snacks stay in hands, not on the ground — chipmunks already have a union
If you pack out a stranger’s wrapper, you are doing it right. That is the whole flex.
