Red Rocks picnic, not a concert sprint
The trading-post lawn and a walk on the rocks — sunset included, earplugs optional.
Red Rocks is not only for 10 p.m. shows. On a free park day you can picnic near the Trading Post, wander the rocks, and treat the amphitheatre steps like a very fancy staircase.
Effort, for real
- Stairs: many. Pick a landing and claim it.
- Sun: brutal on the west-facing seats
- Crowds: lighter on weekday late afternoons
What to pack
- A low-profile picnic — no giant coolers if you are walking far
- Water, sunscreen, a light layer for the car ride home
- A “sit still for five minutes and look” challenge
Stay off closed rails and do not climb the pretty forbidden ledges. The view from the legal spots is already the whole point.
